How Pole Improved My Way of Thinking

I took my first pole class in the summer of 2019, and I knew from that same day that I was where I belonged. I contemplated for a month figuring out how I would budget in a monthly membership. I bit the bullet and knew I would figure it out somehow. Pole felt too amazing for me to just leave behind. And it was hands down the best decision I’ve ever made for various reasons. But today, I’m just going to focus on how it changed my overall way of thinking.

For me, pole isn’t about just improving my health and physique, it’s all about the mind. Pole fitness showed me how powerful the mind is, and I haven’t thought the same about anything ever since.

Dedication

A personal problem I’ve always had was not being able to start and continue doing something I set my mind to. Not to get all astrological, but this is something commonly associated with those who have their Sun in Aries. But I can’t blame my lack of self-discipline on the stars! It’s something I’ve always struggled with but also didn’t try hard enough to stop doing.

I think the main reason is that I didn’t have anything in my life that I was truly passionate enough about to feel was worth the hard work and dedication. Don’t get me wrong, I had interests in things but having an interest and a passion are two different things.

I almost lost hope for myself thinking I’d never find what makes my heart sing. Out of nowhere, pole became my passion. When I decided to try my studio out, I originally planned on trying an aerial silks class. The scheduled times didn’t fit for me, so I tried a pole dancing class for fun instead! I’m so glad that I gave it a chance because I can’t imagine my life without it now.

How It’s Spread Throughout My Life

Pole showed me that I am capable of sticking with something and that I’m willing to work hard to get it. If I’m able to keep working at something that physically harms me and leaves me worn out for days on end, there’s no reason I can’t do anything else I’ve once dreamt of doing.

For example, this website. It was a dream of mine to have my own personal site that can incorporate everything I enjoy doing. Personal blogging, documenting my life, making and editing videos, and even having an e-commerce store one day. But I didn’t want to take action until I found something that I was passionate about. Something that I could write about, film about, and document for free, purely for my own enjoyment.

ā€œYou Can Do It!ā€

I know we always hear, ā€œyou can do anything you set your mind to!ā€ and it’s true! But being able to have the concrete proof right before my eyes was what I needed to truly believe in myself.

I see myself improving with EVERY session. Ever since my first pole class. I would notice I was able to climb a little higher next class, or I noticed I was naturally starting to point my toes without getting yelled at, haha! Make sure to take time to appreciate the small steps, otherwise, you might miss them and won’t see your progress at all.

All is Mind

I never once imagined being able to do the tricks I can do now that I’m only 7 months into my pole journey. If you told me a year ago, I’d be able to do and practice headstands, I wouldn’t believe you! I still have a long way to go, but I’m always making sure to love and appreciate the journey. All is mind and you truly can accomplish so much in this lifetime!

There’s so much I want to do in life, and I have a different pep in my step now that pole dance is a part of my life. Now that I know I can do anything I want, the only thing stopping me is Death himself, but he can wait!
