How I Stay Motivated to Continue Pole Dancing

go up and never stop

I’m not gonna lie, pole dancing is one of the hardest (if not THE hardest) thing I’ve ever done in my life. There are times when I feel discouraged about ever hitting my goals and dream pole tricks. But I quickly snap out of it, and I’m going to share with you my tips on what keeps me motivated to stick with pole fitness.

Understand That Everyone Started From Somewhere

When you’re scrolling through your insta, checking out the #poledancing and #polefitness tags, you’re going to see badass women and men who’ve been poling for 5-10+ years! They’ve nailed graceful transitions and nearly every move you can think of.

As amazing as these people are, you have to remember they’ve earned their spot. They worked their asses off to nail those advanced pole tricks and smooth transitions. When they first started, they sucked. There was a point when they couldn’t even climb the pole. So instead of feeling discouraged when you see them, feel proud and give a little respect for their hard, dedicated work. Understand that if they sucked at first and now they’re a pole goddess, there’s hope for you too!

Make Pole Friends at the Same Level as You

Make friends with the girls and guys in your pole classes. Chances are, you guys all started around the same time and you’ll be able to keep each other motivated.

These people will be the ones you go to to share your excitement when you learn a new move and it will be great to move up levels together. Pole dancing still has some stigma around it, and although it’s improved, we still have a long way to go. So, having people in your circle who understand the pole journey will be a positive and motivating force for you to keep going.

Consider making a pole dancing account as well! You will meet so many people in the community. I’ve made some great friends who also share a love for pole and I would’ve never met them if it weren’t for social media. Now that I think about it… I don’t even think I would’ve tried pole if it weren’t for seeing it pop up on my IG!

Look Back at Progress Videos

If you’re new to pole, take tons of videos! Even if they’re all fails. You will love to look back at your pole progress videos when you finally nail a move. And you’ll want to look back at the same move once you’ve nailed it gracefully.

You may not realize how much you’re truly progressing until you look back at those videos. It’s a great reminder that even if you aren’t where you want to be, you’ve still come so far!

Learn to Love the Journey

Try your hardest to fully live in the moment. The future does not exist. Tell yourself that you will hit your goals so instead of focusing on the future, focus on loving the journey. The journey never ends, regardless of your current level. Embrace the present moment. It’s easy to be discouraged if you’re constantly having thoughts like, “omg it’s going to take me at least another 3 years to be as good as these Instagram polers!”

The time will pass anyway! So, try to switch your thinking. 5 years will go by. 10 years will go by. Would you rather be doing your dream pole tricks during that time or look back and say, “I should’ve stuck with pole 10 years ago.” The choice is yours 😉
